Rodman First Year Advising

From Rodman Scholars Program

Jump to: navigation, search

To help first years adjust to the engineering school and the University as a whole, the Rodman Scholars Program sponsors a first year advising program. Upper-class Rodman Scholars volunteer their time and knowledge to help one or two first years understand program details, choose classes and majors, and even find activities and events on-grounds. The students are paired according to their intended major so the upper-class advisers can give the most relevant advice possible.

[edit] Events

[edit] Orientation

During first year orientation, we will be having a brief adviser orientation and then meeting the first years. On Sunday, August 24th at 1pm we will meet in Mec 205 to have orientation with the E-School program. Afterwards, we will gather on the lawn at 2:00pm and meet with the first years as they exit cabell hall from a speech.

[edit] Garden Party

The Third Annual Rodman Garden Party will be held on Sunday, September 7th, 2008 at 4:30 in Garden I. All Rodmans are welcome to attend, and first year Rodmans are encouraged to seek out their upper-class advisers for a first face-to-face meeting.

[edit] Ropes Course

A ropes course event is currently planned for the weekend of September 20th and 21st from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM on either day. Adviser/advisee pairs (or trios) should decide upon the day that works best for them. Sign ups will be announced closer to the start of classes in the Fall.

[edit] Future Events

The advising team is working to put together other events. Since schedules start to fill up as the semester progresses, we will try to find flexible options for advisers/advisees to interact.
