From Rodman Scholars Program
The undergraduate program in Chemical Engineering was introduced in the School of Engineering and Applied Science in 1908. By the 1950's, the Chemical Engineering department started to offer its first graduate courses. Of the 1800 undergraduate students in the School, about 50 are undergraduate chemical engineering students. The major typically takes 128 credit hours to complete.
The Chemical Engineering curriculum is composed of chemical sciences and mathematics with an emphasis on computer methods, laboratory techniques, open-ended problem solving, team and group approaches, and effective written and oral communication skills. On top of the general 128 credits required for graduation, concentration fields of study are also available. Combining specific elective classes with core chemical engineering classes, concentrations in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, broad-based chemical engineering technology, and Pre-med, are available.
